(warning: this post could make you queezy fo sheezy)
i woke up at 8:30am and started to get ready for my very first PT session. got changed, washed my face, brushed teeth, did hair, and donned 2 layers of leg warmer on my right leg bc there's no way i can fit pants over the brace for a while. in my head i was just excited to get my dressing changed so i can finally shower! ate oatmeal and took my beloved 2 norcos. mom and dad drove me to PT in the mini. i met my lovely therapist, kim. she tore her ACL back in the day too, so she knows all about the rehab. Interestingly, all therapy she received was the reason why she became a PT! after all the paperwork, she got me to the main floor where we undid my dressing. i was so curious to see what was under there. layer by layer it got nasty and more nasty. layers of ace bandage, gauze pads, vaseline gauze, and steristrips were what was keeping all my incisions intact, kinda. i had 4 incisions with stitches too. but we saw where the blood was coming from. a longer vertical incision below my patella inner leg had only 2 steristrips when it could've used 4. we were guessing they slipped off under the other dressing. my PT called Dr. Edwards and explained the site as i did simple exercises. Kim measured my knee and the degrees of flexion and extension. I was all bruised up but surprised that there wasn't that much swelling. the session was one hour long. throughout that hour we changed the gauze on the oozing part 3 times! not good. so when the rents picked me up, we sped to galter to have Dr. Edwards check it out. fyi, she's only in the clinic tue and thur, so i was lucky to catch her on a friday. she was to leave the office at 12:15pm so i just made it! she undid my ace bandage and basically place more steristrips over the part that was oozing. she sent me home with more gauze and steristrips too. she told me to stop taking aspirin too. she noted all the bruising (more than usual). When I got home I took off the brace and reassessed the incisions.
"robobrace" sans the leg the devices that assist me |
yeah, NOT pretty. Lots of swelling, bruising, and oozing, oh my! |
The mini appt with her was reassuring so i was comfortable continuing with my exercises bc i was scared that the CPM and bend attempts would cause the incision to reopen. we got home and mom prepared a nice lunch. my dad was all about degreasing the stove, oven, and cleaning all the other appliances. Being bed ridden, I thought, not only do i get extra hands for help, but i also get a clean kitchen and homemade cooking! i was walking around the condo without crutches for a lil bit bc Kim (PT) had massaged my leg really well so i felt like it was warmed up and not so tender. i was told to massage the knee like that b4 i start my exercises. i'll see her again monday. mom and dad decided to leave for the burbs later on, leaving me all alone only after i gave them the okay. I thought i would be able to survive my first night alone.
I'll be heading to the burbs at noon tomorrow to attend my jr. high reunion. As for now, I'm up to 65 degrees on the CPM machine and will finish the night up with some exercises. i feel great right now as i'm watching some jersey shore and keeping up with the kardashians! we'll see what the weekend brings!
